Summary

As Vode's Presales Engineer, you will have your finger on the pulse of the lighting industry and be at the forefront of innovation at Vode Lighting. Vode's goal is to light beautiful spaces, remove obstacles for our customers and build a world-class customer experience. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating structure and clarity around ideas down to the smallest detail. Ensuring that documentation is consistent, clear, and concise in order to ensure our customers (internal and external) can execute on lighting solutions. You are an integral part of our customers' experience responsible for providing technical solutions to both internal and external customers. The major contributions of this role towards sustained company performance include (but not limited to) Special Project collaboration, technical product support, project/product technical documentation.

A curious collaborator that seeks to always better understand the needs of their customer. You have the ability to navigate moderately-complex engineering, construction, and lighting problems. The experience translating designs and specifications into internal and external-facing documents using design software such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, Sketchup, etc.

 

You are organized and capable of managing multiple priorities with agility and flexibility. Leveraging resources and developing them when needed, as well as a strong understanding and utilization of drafting standards and principles. You are collaborative, well organized, and driven with a "can-do" and "know-how" and "why not" attitude. As part of the Project Engineering Team within the larger Product Development department, you will be a part of a diverse and energetic team that helps shape the lighting industry.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: Four (4) year college degree in Drafting, Architecture, or Engineering required.
  2. Experience: 2-4 years experience as a Drafter or Engineer; 2-4 years experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or SketchUp a plus), and experience in Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
  3. Work Environment: Hybrid, 2-3 days per week in the office and 3-4 weeks full time on site training required upon hire.
  4. Skills: Strong working knowledge of Mechanical and Architectural drafting standards. Proven track record of excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven track record of independently initiating and maintaining your own workflow. Ability to respond well to direction and adjust workflow when requested. Self-starting with the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple demands. Ideate both collaboratively and individually on solutions for moderate to complex lighting and mechanical problems.
  5. Lighting (preferred): Understanding of Illuminance, Luminance, Lumens, Candela, Color, and its perception. Working knowledge of both legacy and current light sources (fluorescent, halogen, LED, metal halide, high-pressure sodium). Understanding of sensors (occupancy, and photocell) and their implementation/commissioning. LED drivers, and dimming capabilities. Lighting control protocols. Basic understanding of IES (NA) and other relevant lighting/energy standards.

 

Internal and External Relationships

  • Internal: All Vodarians, but specifically/especially Projects Engineering, Customer Experience, Sales.
  • External: Primarily internal-facing but when needed Vode's, agents, contractors, and external sales.

 

Specific Position Duties

  • Collaborate with Customer Experience (CX) and Sales to interpret and define customer requirements over the course of a project's life cycle.
  • Perform basic lighting and mechanical calculations for Vode systems, including but not limited to light output, power input, power optimization, fixture length and overall system dimension.
  • Inform CX/Sales decision-making on specifying appropriate Vode system configurations as it pertains to customer requests/requirements.
  • Provide basic feasibility input to CX/Sales on custom configurations of Vode product and collaborating with broader Product Development department on more complex requirements.
  • Provide detailed line art, System Layout Drawings (SLDs) that accurately reflects requested system customization/modification in accordance to scheduled due dates.
  • Maintain and collaborate on Project Engineering drafting standards as it relates to (but not limited to) SLDs, Concept Drawings, Automated SLDs, Tech Sheets and Installation Guides.
  • Performing lighting simulations using standard and modified product (AGi32)
  • Generate custom Installation Guides for modified, custom products and Special Projects in collaboration with Designing Engineers.
  • Incorporate templates and tools into existing systems/processes to provide consistency/efficiency across varying documentation.
  • Support internal teams with required documentation and collateral material, working in collaboration with Marketing and Design teams to support new product launches.
  • Support internal teams with documentation associated with new product launches in collaboration with New Product Engineering to create technical documents including Installation Guides, Tech Sheets, IES Reports.
  • Provide post-sales technical support to customers.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
